What the Hell, Sam?!?

My friend, Sam called to ask if I’d watch her son Joe overnight at her house. She’d gotten a call from work and has to leave. I get to her house, which is my mom’s house in waking life, and it’s really late already. Joe should definitely be in bed, he’s only 2. I ask him what he wants for breakfast, even though it’s so late. Maybe I’m rationalizing “breakfast” by what time I came over. We have pizza. Before we head to bed, I remember we have to let the dogs out. I go down to the basement. There isn’t anything down here, but the furnace, washer & dryer and a couple of posts. The floors are cement. The two dogs and a meerkat are tied up with just their water bowls. At first, I’m super upset with Sam for getting a meerkat, because it doesn’t belong in a household setting. Then, I realize my dog isn’t there and I want to know were he is.

I untie the dogs and the meerkat and bring them upstairs. I’m worried they’ll run out of the back yard without a fence, so I have Joe help me tie them up outside. Joe’s dad, Jim is over at my house helping my husband with the motorcycle. It’s strange he isn’t here watching Joe, but whatevs. I bring the dogs and the meerkat in and take them back to the basement. I stand there looking around and on the other side of the basement is a large kiddie pool with a giant duck swimming in it. “What the hell, Sam?!?! I wonder what the landlord thinks of this.”

Sam gets home and I ask her where my dog is. I’m really upset. She assumes I mean, Bono, her dog in waking life. She says, “well, you know he was suffering from depression.” She’s saying this, because I’d taken him to the vet for medication for it and implying he’s died. I say to her, “you’d be depressed too if you were stuck, tied in the basement for 13 years!”

“I have always been amazed at the way an ordinary observer lends so much more credence and attaches so much more importance to waking events than to those occurring in dreams… Man… is above all the plaything of his memory.” ~Andre Breton

Here is ‘A’s interpretation on this one:

  • the pizza could actually be about your own ambition here. And to pursue it, you believe you are going to need to figure out a way to divide your time and share it equally to do all that you want to do.
  • the basement can be about your exploring of your unconscious mind. Think of the things that are in our unconscious mind-you have your intuition, memories, emotions, your desires and instincts about life. You could be working those things out. You also may be beginning to try to access some past memories you’ve been hiding.
  • the meerkat could be that you are being protected from negativity in your waking life.
  •  swimming duck represents your subconscious. If you tie it in with the basement, perhaps there are some past memories you are beginning to try and explore……
